post 10 Reasons Why You Won’t Ever Want to Go Back to XP from Vista

Vista

Well after reading this article, it just does not do it for me. There are plenty of reasons to go back to XP after Vista, I for one am not at that point. I am still giving Vista a run around the block but it does come with some annoyances.

One of my biggest complaints is the damn Network and Sharing Center. Connecting to my work VPN connection took all of 2 seconds in XP. Now it takes much longer, involves several clicks and scrolling up, then once connected the box does not minimize to the systray like in XP and you are forced to waste yet another click to close a box that stays open until you click finished. I thought the whole part of upgrading to the latest and greatest is to become more efficient. This is not the case, and for the love of god Microsoft I want my 3 seconds back!!

My second biggest complaint I have about Vista is how long it takes to delete large files or folders. I mean come on how hard is that to do Microsoft? you have been doing it right for years and now you have to go mess this up!! I select delete on my Vista machine and instead of it deleting, first it has to think about it, then it has to calculate the time and size, then it finally deletes. The same goes for moving/transferring large files and forget the calculated or remaining time being right, it’s not even close!

If you are looking for a speed machine stick with XP, Vista is just a little too slow. My Vista machine is an IBM T60p Core Duo T2500 2.0GHZ with 2GB of DDR2 RAM a 7200RPM SATA Hard drive and a ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200 with 256MB of Ram. It certainly is not a slow machine by any standard, and was very quick with XP. The breaks came on when I finished the Vista install.

I do like the look and feel of Vista, the sidebar kicks ass with my gadgets all right there in front of me at all times. I LOVE the search feature! it has got to be one of Vista’s best cards at the table.

I don’t hate Vista but for every advantage there is to having Vista over XP there are just as many advantages to staying with XP. It’s really more about getting what you want and expect out of it.

post Snatch: The Most Badass Scene Ever!

Just before I was headed to bed last night one of my top 10 favorite movies came on TV, so naturally sleep was no longer important.  The movie is called Snatch and it’s the kind of movie that is 100% original. Too many movies out there are plot less boring crap made to make money and not entertain.

Snatch is the opposite of this and if you have not seen it yet, I recommend giving it a whirl. Here is a clip of the best scene in the movie. Pure badass!!

Aftermath of Exploding CD

Ok 10 bucks says this CD was made in China. I’m not going to blame China, I have no proof this CD was made in China but basically China sucks and it’s all their fault this CD exploded. I mean this kid will from now on fear Reader Rabbit!

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ12VN

A great review of Sony’s new VAIO with a solid state drive . I can’t wait until this technology is more prevalent in laptops and desktops as it will finally get rid of a huge bottleneck in today’s PC’s

post First Time FireFox User

Ok so I have been forced to leave the dark side, well I am really not leaving just adding a second browser on my laptop and workstation. I am very happy with IE7 and typically am a Microsoft fan. WordPress seems to have intermittent issues when I try to post in IE7, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. I can’t find a rhyme nor reason as to why it is doing this, and the fix above did not work for me. The good news is, this is not an issue in FireFox or at least it has not shown it’s face yet.

I have always wanted to see what the hype is all about so I decided to download FireFox and test it out. Even though there is such a following for this browser one of my busiest sites still reports FireFox as only being 5.5% of total browsers used on that site. Now I know that this can vary significantly from site to site, so here is a more accurate number.

Download and install was quick and painless.

FireFox Download

Setup

One thing I really liked during the setup was this.

Import

Inport Finish

After the install was finished I opened up Firefox and started to play with it. The first thing I noticed was there was not an option to add a tab by clicking on a tool bar button.

I could right click and select New Tab but I couldn’t click on a button like I am use to in IE7. So a simple Google search returned this little extension that adds a New Tab button.

New Tab Extension

The next two things I changed was to show the tab bar and enable scrolling.

Tabs

Scrolling

My first impressions are positive, although it seems to be a bit slower then IE7 when displaying images on a new visit to a website. I am going to use FireFox and get a feel for it, I will post an update after I get more experience with the browser.
